Ted receiving his trophy at the November 11, 2023 Indy Motor Speedway Race
Ted Hartley
Back on November 11, 1923, Ted Hartley drove his race car (the “Hartley Special” – built by his brother Glenn) from Roanoke to the Hoosier Motor Speedway in Indianapolis for the 100-mile race. Numbers were put on the car when they entered, nobody wanted #13 so Ted took it and WON! The average speed was 51.4 mph. Others pictured, Glen Hartley (holding trophy); Art Smith (immediately behind Ted); Art Hartley (next to Art at Ted’s left shoulder) .
