Former Roanoke School Building History

From 1893 to 1903, a two-story wood framed public school house at the top of the hill on the northeast corner of Main and Sixth Streets served students of Roanoke. Due to a growing population, it was replaced with a larger brick school, which quickly became the center of the Community, hosting basketball games and community events. In 1925, the school was condemned by the State for not having electricity and a faulty steam heat system. The school building was destroyed by fire in 1926.
